Speaking the Customer’s Language: Placing an FAE at a Growing BLE/IoT Semiconductor Company

A regional field engineer with a $200M+ design-in track record, extracted from a Tier 1 supplier and placed on the East Coast.

A fast-growing wireless connectivity semiconductor company, a specialist competing against much larger players in the BLE/IoT space, needed to build out field engineering coverage on the East Coast. The role wasn’t a junior support seat. It required someone who could sit inside a customer’s design cycle, debug at the firmware and hardware level in real time, and carry credibility with automotive and industrial OEM accounts from day one. A growing pipeline of new customer designs meant there wasn’t time to develop someone into the territory.

MKIS ran this as a targeted search against a narrow profile: FAEs already carrying real protocol depth (BLE, embedded C/C++, RTOS) who were already living inside the OEM base the client needed covered, rather than screening broadly against a job posting and hoping the geography and the technical stack lined up.

The right fit was a Staff Field Applications Engineer at a major MCU/SoC supplier, based in the target region, with a decade of embedded software and hardware design experience before ever moving into field engineering, including firmware work on instrument-cluster and ADAS platforms for Tier 1 automotive accounts. In his current seat, he had exceeded design-in targets by 200% and revenue targets by 100%, and he already knew the exact Northeast OEM accounts the client needed covered.

The process that followed was a focused, multi-round evaluation on both sides: the client testing technical depth against real debug scenarios and protocol knowledge, and MKIS making the case for why a leaner, faster-moving specialist company offered more scope and velocity than a larger, more established supplier.

This opportunity positioning mattered: a candidate performing at this level at a Tier 1 name doesn’t move for a lateral title.

The result: an FAE who already spoke the region’s OEM language, carrying a proven design-in and revenue track record, OEM relationships, and able to be productive in the territory in weeks rather than months.

This is the same discipline behind every MKIS search: identify the specific person already doing adjacent work at the level a role demands, and make the case for why the next chapter should be here.
